Mal Dobson

Managing Director & Financial Planner

Mal is an Authorised Representative of Meritum Financial Group Pty Ltd. The Managing Director of Mal Dobson & Associates, Mal commenced working in the Financial Services industry in 1967 with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He has completed an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning and is an AFP member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).

In 2010 Mal was recognised for his dedication to enriching the financial planning industry by being awarded Fellow membership of the FPA. A Fellow of the FPA is an outstanding practitioner who has made a selfless contribution to the profession and provides exemplary leadership to their peers. For over thirty years, Mal was actively involved in Australian Rules Football, earning life membership of the East Fremantle Football Club. His involvement included footballer, club director and junior football coach.

Mal remains an active participant in community organisations, including:

• Treasurer and Volunteer Firefighter with Jandakot Volunteer Bushfire Brigade.
• Department of Parks & Wildlife, Jandakot Regional Parks committee member.

Steve Dobson

Director & Financial Planner

Steve is an Authorised Representative of Meritum Financial Group Pty Ltd, commencing with the practice in 1999. Steve holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor of Business (Financial Planning), Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Police Investigation) and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning).

Concurrent to the early development of Steve’s career as a financial planner, he was a WA Police Officer in uniform and detective positions. This public sector background benefits our government employee clients, with understanding of government superannuation schemes, such as GESB. Steve was a national finalist in the 2016 Association of Financial Advisers Excellence in Education Award.

Steve is an active participant in community organisations, including:

• Board Member of WA government statutory authority, Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC)
• ASIC Financial Adviser Consultative Committee Member
• President & Coach at Bullcreek Leeming Junior Football Club.
• Justice of the Peace

Alex is an Authorised Representative of Meritum Financial Group Pty Ltd and has been employed as a Financial Planner with Mal Dobson & Associates since 2006. Alex previously worked for the ANZ Bank, SIRCA and the University of Sydney.

He has completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance Broking). Alex is a CFP® member of Financial Planning Association of Australia

Matt has a combined role where he also provides paraplanning support to our financial planners. Damien is an Authorised Representative of Meritum Financial Group Pty Ltd, commencing with Mal Dobson & Associates in 2012. Damien also offers paraplanning support to our financial planners. He brings over six year’s retail management experience in the agriculture supply industry. Damien has completed an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning, and is a member of the Association of Financial Advisers.
